Simple Tips before starting Self Hypnosis

First after being understood "What is Hypnosis" it times to understand how one can perform Self Hypnosis. In short Hypnosis is:
  • a proven method of deep relaxation that is used for creating inner changes in our thoughts, emotions and behaviours.
  • a medically recognised tool for controlling pain and reducing stress.
  • a self-induced state of deep relaxation attained by either listening to a recording or by bringing yourself into a trance.

It is fairly easy to learn self hypnosis. Here are some of the don'ts before starting self hypnosis.

Don'ts

  • Do not try too hard to enter into trance - You are going to learn how to bring yourself into a profoundly relaxed state and trying to force it to happen only makes you tense and has the reverse effect.
  • Try not to analyze what is happening - keeping the conscious mind engaged in analyzing, it is hard to go from the beta brainwave state (conscious waking decision making) to the alpha brainwave state (the deeply relaxed state of light trance where most hypnosis subjects stay).
  • Don't be discouraged if nothing happens - It requires some practice before entering self-induced trance later become easy and natural to guide your body and mind to relax.
  • Don't expect to be expert soon - Practice makes man perfect. Constantly teaching the mind and body at some stage will make you master of your own destiny.
  • Different people have different experience - Don't depend on what others have achieved. Everyone has their own calibre and specific period to achieve mastery in self hypnosis.
  • Don't be Sleepy - You may tend to fall asleep while practicing self hypnosis. Practice at earlier time when you are less fatigued until you perfect the technique. If falling asleep is still a problem then practise it while sitting in an upright chair.

Do's
